SNC-Lavalin is hiring a Process/Chemical Engineer Energy to support its US Nuclear business, a role tied to the company's Oak Ridge, TN operations and open to candidates across the United States. Join a team engineering safer, smarter nuclear energy solutions for government and commercial clients.
About the Role
As a Process/Chemical Engineer Energy, you will help deliver Small Modular Reactor and nuclear fuel cycle facility projects for SNC-Lavalin's US Nuclear group. The work spans design, operations, and project management for both legacy fleets and new-build nuclear assets, with a strong emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape system architecture, flow diagrams, and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for nuclear facilities, auxiliary systems, and fuel cycle models.
- Assess systems, structures, and components for chemical safety, criticality control, radiation shielding, and defense-in-depth under normal, off-normal, and accident conditions.
- Confirm that every design meets local, state, and federal requirements, including DOE and NRC regulations and nuclear quality assurance standards.
- Specify and validate mechanical components, valves, and vessels built to perform in highly regulated, hazardous environments.
- Produce process drawings, Process Flow Diagrams, and Engineering Flow Diagrams, and prepare or approve mass, energy, and flow balance calculations plus pipe and equipment sizing.
- Author equipment specifications, drive resolution of technical issues, and manage change control while overseeing the work of consultants and subcontractors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- At least two years of post-baccalaureate engineering experience, ideally supporting nuclear facility design, construction, or operations.
- Working knowledge of NRC regulations, design codes, and standards for commercial nuclear facilities.
- Familiarity with process simulation and related design software codes.
- Strong communication and organizational skills in a complex, multi-tiered setting.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred; NSSS OEM and DOE/commercial reactor or fuel cycle experience are valuable.
- Must be a U.S. citizen to be considered.
