Formenergy, an American energy storage and manufacturing company headquartered in Berkeley, California, is hiring a Senior Test Engineer to lead validation efforts for our iron-air battery systems and help scale production of groundbreaking multi-day energy storage technology designed to stabilize the electrical grid. Full-time position; relocation assistance available.

About This Position

Join Formenergy's Test Engineering team and own the end-to-end validation framework for our advanced energy storage products. In this role, you'll partner with design and manufacturing teams to establish rigorous testing protocols that ensure safety, reliability, and performance across component, subsystem, and system levels. You'll drive both the technical strategy and hands-on execution of mechanical and electrical verification programs, translating complex test data into actionable insights that inform product improvements and scale-up decisions. This is your opportunity to bridge the gap between innovative hardware design and real-world grid-scale deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and execute comprehensive test strategies for electrical, mechanical, and functional validation at component through full-system levels for energy storage products.
  • Design and build electromechanical test platforms and high-voltage test architectures to support hardware characterization and stress testing programs.
  • Diagnose electrical faults within test stands and resolve systematic inefficiencies in test infrastructure and procedures.
  • Select, specify, and implement data acquisition systems and sensing technologies based on hands-on technical validation and analysis of measurement requirements.
  • Work cross-functionally with design engineers to develop test cases covering diverse operating scenarios, failure modes, and environmental conditions.
  • Process and analyze large datasets from test operations, identify performance trends and anomalies, and correlate empirical results with simulation models.
  • Author detailed test reports with findings, conclusions, and recommendations for design refinement and corrective actions.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline testing workflows, accelerate cycle time, and raise product quality standards through continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate test execution with external laboratories as needed and manage third-party lab partnerships to support business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of hands-on test engineering, hardware validation, or similar technical role with proven experience leading complex verification programs.
  • Strong competency in mechanical and electrical component testing, as well as system-level functional testing and characterization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in test planning, data analysis, vibration data processing, and converting raw measurement results into engineering recommendations.
  • Track record as a strategic partner to design teams, with the ability to influence early-stage hardware concepts through validation insights.
  • Proficiency in linking test results back to analytical and simulation models to improve design fidelity.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and coordinate project deliverables under tight schedules.
  • Experience managing internal and external laboratory capabilities and test outsourcing.
