Espeo Software is recruiting a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Scala and Python to strengthen our partner's backend engineering team as we accelerate the development of AI-integrated services for their SaaS solution.
The Opportunity
This is a contract position focused on building and scaling backend infrastructure while pioneering AI functionality across the platform. Your work will span both Scala—the foundation of the existing platform—and Python, where much of the day-to-day development occurs. You'll take ownership of integrating cutting-edge AI models and external AI services into production systems that serve real users at scale.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and iterate on backend services using Scala and Python
- Architect and deploy AI-driven functionality throughout the platform
- Connect and orchestrate third-party and internal AI services, including large language models and similar systems, through their APIs
- Drive ongoing refinement of the backend infrastructure and AI capabilities
- Collaborate with the existing engineering team to ship robust, well-tested code
Who We're Looking For
Must-have expertise:
- Proven track record shipping Scala code in commercial production systems
- Deep hands-on proficiency with Python
- Senior engineer mindset grounded in software engineering fundamentals: testing, source control, automated deployment pipelines, and agile practices
Nice-to-have strengths:
- Direct experience building with large language models
- Work on AI-based transcription platforms or comparable AI solutions
- Familiarity with ElasticSearch
- Prior exposure to API-based AI service integration
- PHP development background
- Practical knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP's AI offerings
