About this role & career path
GN/RN med-surg telemetry builds core acute-care skills—monitoring, prioritization, and interdisciplinary communication—that transfer to progressive care, other med-surg units, or specialty paths after licensure and experience within a larger system like Hartford HealthCare.
Build the skills for this role
Strengthen fundamentals for med-surg telemetry RNs:
- Telemetry rhythm recognition and when to escalate
- Med-surg assessment, meds, and patient education
- Documentation and handoff communication
- Optional free refreshers: Saylor Academy — Health Sciences courses (free); Coursera — audit-track healthcare courses (free to learn)
Free & low-cost learning resources

Be ready to walk through clinical scenarios (chest pain, low SpO2, abnormal rhythms), how you prioritize a full assignment, and examples of asking for help as a new grad. Ask about preceptorship length, telemetry training, nurse-to-patient ratios, and how Windham Hospital onboards GNs within Hartford HealthCare.
Strong fit if you want entry-level acute care in a Connecticut community hospital with system resources and recent quality recognition. Less ideal if you need big-city academic specialty exposure or fully remote work (role is on-site).
