Turner & Townsend is seeking a full-time Principal Consultant – Business Case & Project Finance to strengthen our advisory capabilities across the UK. This is an opportunity to guide institutional clients and government bodies through the design and execution of sophisticated infrastructure finance strategies that enable their Net Zero transitions.

What This Role Involves

You'll operate within our Programme Advisory practice, which specializes in helping clients navigate programme strategy, financing options, and delivery transformation. Drawing on project finance fundamentals and business case rigour, you'll work across the complete programme lifecycle—from conception through to realization—with particular emphasis on how private capital structures and alternative delivery vehicles can unlock sustainable infrastructure development. Your perspective will span multiple sectors and stakeholder groups, informing clients' strategic and procurement decisions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Evaluate programme strategies and financing models in the context of decarbonisation and environmental performance
  • Synthesize complex factors affecting programme setup and execution across different maturity stages
  • Design and validate business cases using rigorous analytical frameworks
  • Refine and apply established methodologies to reflect client circumstances and sector nuances
  • Articulate concepts, recommendations, and trade-offs to boards and senior leaders
  • Foster lasting client relationships through insight, judgment, and commercial partnership
  • Actively identify and pursue new business and client engagements
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to developing advisory best practice
  • Support client teams through on-site engagement as needed
  • Uphold SOX and organisational compliance obligations as applicable to the role

What We're Looking For

  • Masters qualification or MBA (or extensive equivalent professional achievement)
  • Substantial background in project finance, business case development, or comparable advisory roles
  • Hands-on experience with public sector procurement, infrastructure delivery, or major programmes
  • Demonstrated grasp of UK economic policy, benefit evaluation frameworks, and green transition priorities
  • Technical familiarity with decarbonisation infrastructure—renewable energy, zero-emission transport, battery systems, hydrogen, carbon removal
  • Prior exposure to PPP, PFI, or similar capital-light delivery models
  • Capability to navigate complex negotiations involving multiple parties and competing interests
  • Proven commercial judgment and ability to cultivate accounts and win mandates
  • Clear, persuasive communication in written and verbal formats
  • Collaborative approach with strong presence in client-facing settings
  • Competence in leading client proposals and partnerships with senior colleagues
  • Sector experience in energy, transport, water, public services, or defence is valued
