The Opportunity
The Program Leader Fire and Biodiversity plays a critical leadership role in protecting Hobart's people, property, and natural environment. You will lead the City's Fire and Biodiversity program, driving best-practice bushfire risk management, biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, and invasive species management across Hobart's extensive bushland estate and catchments.
Core Duties
- Develop and implement strategies for managing bushfire risks in collaboration with local communities and stakeholders.
- Oversee the protection of Hobart’s biodiversity through conservation, restoration, and management practices.
- Manage invasive species to ensure minimal impact on native ecosystems.
- Lead a team of specialists in fire ecology, biodiversity, and ecological restoration.
- Collaborate with external agencies for coordinated bushfire risk reduction and environmental protection efforts.
Requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, forestry, or related field.
- Proven leadership experience in a similar role within local government or conservation organizations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of bushfire risk management and biodiversity conservation practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
