Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Avon, Connecticut, is hiring an Assistant Nurse Manager (RN) for our medical-surgical unit. This full-time leadership role blends hands-on patient care with unit management, offering an ideal opportunity for a registered nurse ready to grow into clinical leadership on our evening shift team.

About the Role

You'll support the operations and clinical excellence of our med-surg unit while remaining engaged in direct patient care. Your shift runs 4:00 PM to 2:30 AM on a rotating schedule: alternating weeks of 30 and 40 hours totaling 70 hours biweekly. You'll work every other weekend with no holiday rotation, providing scheduling predictability throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily unit operations and resource management during evening shift hours
  • Support and mentor nursing staff with clinical guidance and professional development
  • Ensure adherence to patient safety standards, protocols, and regulatory compliance
  • Participate in staffing decisions and scheduling to maintain appropriate unit coverage
  • Facilitate communication between clinical teams and hospital leadership
  • Identify and lead unit improvement initiatives that enhance patient care and operational efficiency

What We're Looking For

  • Current Connecticut RN licensure required
  • 3–5+ years of registered nursing experience, preferably in medical-surgical or acute care settings
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and capacity to support and motivate a nursing team
  • Strong clinical judgment combined with operational perspective
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and continuous professional growth
