About the Role

As the primary voice of Northport VA Medical Center's switchboard, you'll manage high-volume telephone communications with professionalism and precision. Your role bridges patients and their families with care teams, directs staff to appropriate departments, assists visitors, and maintains calm, clear communication during medical emergencies. This position is essential to hospital operations—every call you handle directly impacts patient care and safety.

What You'll Do

• Answer and route incoming calls to the correct departments, physicians, and medical staff
• Identify and prioritize emergency calls, following established protocols for immediate dispatcher notification
• Maintain organized call logs and accurately document messages for staff
• Provide courteous, professional assistance to patients, families, and visitors inquiring about services or patient status
• Operate and troubleshoot switchboard equipment and phone systems
• Follow HIPAA and patient privacy guidelines when handling sensitive information
• Remain alert and composed during high-stress situations and multi-line call periods
