About the Role

As a Middle Social Studies Teacher, you will design and deliver engaging instruction to students in grades 6–8, fostering critical thinking about history, government, geography, and social issues. You'll contribute to a collaborative school culture where strong interpersonal connections and professional teamwork directly enhance student outcomes. This position is based at Sumner Middle School, serving approximately 160 students.

What You'll Do

• Plan and teach standards-aligned social studies lessons across history, civics, geography, and economics
• Create an inclusive, discussion-based classroom environment that encourages student inquiry and civic participation
• Develop formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and inform instruction
• Collaborate with colleagues on integrated units and school-wide initiatives
• Maintain regular communication with families about student progress and learning goals
• Contribute to the school's commitment to strong relationships and positive school culture

What We're Looking For

• Valid Maine teaching certification in social studies (or equivalent)
• Strong content knowledge of US and world history, government, and geography
• Proven ability to engage and inspire middle school students
