Die Maker Journeyman

General Motors is hiring a Die Maker Journeyman to join our skilled manufacturing team in North Manchester, Indiana. This full-time, on-site position is critical to maintaining precision dies that produce structural and body components for automotive assembly.

About the Role

You'll work within our Skilled Labor group, supporting high-volume stamping operations by building, repairing, and optimizing the complex dies that deliver precision and consistency on the production floor. This role sits at the intersection of craftsmanship and engineering, requiring deep technical skill and problem-solving ability.

What You'll Do

• Design, fabricate, assemble, and repair precision dies using advanced machining, grinding, and EDM technology
• Analyze blueprints and CAD documentation to guide die construction, modification, and improvement
• Investigate and resolve tooling defects, fit issues, and production anomalies to minimize downtime
• Verify dimensional accuracy and component fit throughout the die-making process
• Partner with manufacturing engineering and production teams to optimize dies and solve complex stamping challenges
• Execute preventive maintenance on equipment, track tool wear, and uphold safety and quality protocols

What We're Looking For

• Journeyman certification or equivalent demonstrated experience in die making and precision tool fabrication
• Hands-on expertise with CNC machining, grinding, EDM, and related tooling equipment
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical drawings and CAD specifications
• Strong diagnostic and analytical skills for troubleshooting dies and stamping processes
• Commitment to quality workmanship, safety standards, and collaborative problem-solving
