Join the Mako IT Infrastructure team which is responsible for building and operating the complex technology foundation upon which the firm’s operations are built. In this team, world-class engineers work together to build a highly reliable low-latency platform to enable the firm’s business.
The Junior Infrastructure Engineer will work closely with Mako’s trading, quant, developer and support teams to handle multiple aspects of administration, deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting of our global technology environment. There will be an opportunity to learn about all aspects of Mako’s technology footprint, as well as the business, and to grow your skills and knowledge in both breadth and depth.
What you’ll be involved in:
- Installing, configuring and supporting workstations, servers, telephony systems and all associated peripheral devices
- Diagnosing and solving faults in both hardware and software
- Build, configure, and upgrade desktop workstations (Linux and Windows)
- Supporting core trading and business software
- Actively participate in automating repetitive tasks and deploying configurations using tools like PowerShell, Python, and Ansible
- Act as the first point of contact for resolving technology issues for our traders, developers, and support teams
- Log, triage, and systematically track support tickets, escalating critical issues to specialized engineering teams when necessary
- Supporting the global LAN and WAN environments
- Troubleshooting and solving network issues, including telco and exchange outages
- Assist with racking, cabling, and configuring high-performance server hardware deployed across various global colocation sites
- Supporting a real-time, latency-sensitive trading operation spread across multiple global sites
What we need from you:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A friendly, approachable, and professional attitude with a drive to provide outstanding face-to-face and digital support
- An open-minded and innovative approach and a desire to take initiative
- Experience installing and configuring workstations
- Familiarity with Windows desktop operating systems, Active Directory, Office 365, and basic network troubleshooting
- Experience of troubleshooting desktop hardware and software issues
- A strong sense of personal initiative to follow up on unresolved issues and document troubleshooting procedures to build our team’s knowledge base
- Scripting skills for automation of tasks is desirable e.g. Python, PowerShell
- An interest in or experience with using AI-powered tools like GitHub, Gemini or Claude.
