IUOE Painter A

University of Rochester seeks a skilled IUOE Painter A to join our Facilities & Operations team in Rochester, working full-time. This position is essential to maintaining and enhancing the aesthetic and protective coatings across our campus buildings and infrastructure.

About the Role

As a Painter A with IUOE certification, you'll take on advanced painting and coating projects across our dynamic academic and administrative campus. This position requires both technical expertise and a commitment to our institution's values of integrity, respect, and excellence. You'll work independently and collaboratively to ensure every painted surface meets our high standards for durability, appearance, and adherence to safety protocols.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces through cleaning, sanding, stripping, and patching before applying primers and finished coatings
• Apply various paint products—including latex, enamel, stain, and specialized coatings—using brushes, rollers, sprayers, and other equipment
• Mix paint and coating materials to exact specifications and maintain consistency throughout projects
• Inspect completed work to verify quality, coverage, and compliance with architectural and specifications
• Maintain and care for all painting tools and equipment, reporting maintenance needs promptly
• Follow all campus safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
• Coordinate with facilities staff and other trades to minimize disruption and meet project timelines

Skills & Qualifications

• Valid IUOE Painter A certification or demonstrated equivalent skill and experience
• Proficiency in surface preparation and application of multiple coating types
• Ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and color standards
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship excellence
• Physical capability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions
• Reliable attendance and strong communication skills
