Food Service Worker II – Part-time Main Kitchen

Join University of Vermont Health - UVM Medical Center's food service operations as a Food Service Worker II supporting our main kitchen in Winooski, Vermont, Vermont. This part-time position directly enables patient nutrition and hospital meal delivery in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

About the Role

You'll work variable evening shifts between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM, with every other weekend participation required. Operating from our main kitchen facility, you'll ensure patients receive timely meals that meet their clinical dietary orders and preferences. This role bridges food preparation and patient care, requiring both technical kitchen skills and compassionate patient interaction.

What You'll Do

• Assemble and prepare individual patient meal trays in accordance with prescribed dietary orders and nutritional requirements
• Transport and deliver meals directly to patients in hospital units
• Operate commercial dishwashing equipment and maintain sanitation standards for all kitchen utensils, service ware, and equipment
• Sort and separate waste materials including food scraps, recycling, and composting according to hospital environmental protocols
• Restock and organize kitchen supplies, ingredients, and service items to support continuous meal operations
• Interact professionally with patients, families, and healthcare staff during meal service
• Adhere to food safety, infection control, and occupational safety procedures at all times

What We're Looking For

• Previous food service or institutional kitchen experience (preferred)
• Availability for variable evening and weekend hours
• Accuracy and attention to detail in food handling and meal assembly
• Ability to engage respectfully with patients across diverse physical and medical conditions
• Physical capability to stand, walk, lift, and move throughout shifts
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and sanitation standards
