Editorial Manager – Mid and Upper-Level Psychology (Remote)

Cengage Group is hiring a full-time Editorial Manager – Mid and Upper-Level Psychology to lead product development for its Higher Education portfolio, working fully remote from anywhere in the US (including the Edgewood, Richland County area).

About the Role

This position sits within Cengage Group's Higher Ed Editorial and Learning organization, where the work you do shapes course materials used by psychology students across the country. As Editorial Manager, you will own a defined list of mid and upper-division psychology titles—spanning areas such as abnormal, social, developmental, and research methods—and drive those products from concept through publication.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and grow an assigned list of mid and upper-level psychology titles, setting strategic direction for each product based on market data and discipline trends
  • Recruit, sign, and cultivate relationships with authors and contributors who bring credibility and classroom insight to Cengage learning materials
  • Guide manuscripts and digital learning products through the full editorial development cycle, maintaining quality standards and production schedules
  • Commission and synthesize manuscript reviews, translating academic and instructor feedback into actionable revisions
  • Partner cross-functionally with learning design, production, marketing, and sales teams to bring differentiated products to market
  • Conduct ongoing competitive analysis to identify gaps and opportunities within the psychology higher ed market
  • Track and manage editorial budgets, contracts, and project timelines with accuracy and accountability

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience in higher education publishing, preferably with editorial responsibility for a content list
  • Familiarity with the psychology discipline and the courses typically taught at the mid and upper undergraduate level
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple titles and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to work effectively with academic authors
  • Analytical mindset for evaluating market opportunities and editorial investments
  • Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree in psychology or a related field is a plus
  • Comfort working in a fully remote environment with distributed teams
