About the Role

This is a full-time position where you'll serve as a bridge between local regulations and community compliance. You'll investigate violations of municipal and state codes, respond to community concerns, and work collaboratively to resolve issues fairly and effectively. Whether handling routine matters or complex cases requiring detailed analysis, you'll play a direct role in maintaining Encinitas' standards for property maintenance, land use, and public safety.

What You'll Do

• Conduct investigations into reported code violations and non-compliance matters
• Inspect properties and document findings with accuracy and thoroughness
• Issue notices of violation and follow up on corrective actions
• Educate property owners and residents on code requirements and compliance pathways
• Prepare detailed reports and maintain organized case files
• Testify in administrative hearings when necessary
• Coordinate with other city departments and external agencies on multi-jurisdictional matters
• Handle both routine inspections and complex investigations requiring problem-solving and judgment

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent; some positions may require additional education or certifications
• Valid California driver's license and ability to travel throughout Encinitas and San Diego County
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and community interaction
• Ability to work independently while following policies and procedures
• Customer service orientation and professional demeanor when engaging residents and businesses
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously
• Physical ability to conduct property inspections and navigate various terrain
