About this role & career path
BI Developer roles sit between analytics and software: you own data models, ETL/ELT, and presentation layers that decision-makers rely on. Growth paths usually run toward senior BI/analytics engineering, data engineering, or analytics leadership. Success is measured by reliable metrics, maintainable pipelines, and clear documentation—not one-off spreadsheets.
Build the skills for this role
Prioritize SQL, dimensional modeling, and one BI stack (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or Looker), plus version control and basic Python or scripting for transforms.

Expect SQL case questions (joins, window functions, slowly changing metrics), a data-modeling exercise, and scenarios on pipeline failures or conflicting KPI definitions. Prepare one portfolio example: source → model → dashboard, with trade-offs you made. Ask name how they govern metrics and which warehouses/BI tools they use.

Strong fit if you enjoy owning trusted datasets and partnering with non-technical U.S. stakeholders. Company-specific signals for name are thin, so validate stack, team size, and on-site expectations early. Thin public data is not a red flag by itself—just a cue to interview carefully.
