Role Overview
The Seasonal Kitchen Assistant (Sur La Table) position with Cscgeneration-2 places you at the Lake Grove, New York site as a part-time team member focused on enabling chefs, engaging class participants, and keeping the kitchen ready for peak performance. You bring energy for food preparation and customer hospitality while contributing to seamless sessions, brand standards, and overall store success through reliable kitchen and floor support.
What You'll Do
- Create educational guest moments that build loyalty and return visits while representing brand culture and growing product knowledge via training plus independent study
- Foster guest-first service across kitchen and sales floor duties and partner with chefs on classes that generate strong enrollment, reviews, rebooking rates, and class revenue
- Meet or exceed individual sales targets tracked by sales volume, average transaction value, and conversion rates contributing to store totals
- Complete class setup and breakdown including ingredient organization, food prep, workstation cleaning, rapid dishwashing, equipment sanitizing, restocking, and tool organization to maintain store readiness
- Follow food safety standards, local health and sanitation codes, and safe handling of tools, ingredients, and equipment while keeping accurate inventory, reducing loss, and managing culinary costs
- Handle liquor, wine, or beer when needed in line with alcohol regulations and age verification policies; maintain store safety and cleanliness while promptly addressing maintenance items; record time accurately under wage and hour rules; and model full compliance with all policies and standard procedures
Who We're Looking For
- Must be 16 years of age or older at employment start
- Valid Food Handlers Certification
- One year of retail sales experience preferred
- One year of food prep and/or kitchen operations experience preferred
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities plus passion for community engagement and exceptional customer experiences
- Microsoft Office Suite and retail systems proficiency preferred
- Ability to communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customers
- Stand for up to four hours at a time and move about the store guiding class participants, selling, and retrieving merchandise from stockroom or sales floor
- Accurately perceive intensity or quality variations in flavors or odors and identify specific tastes or scents
- Grab, reach, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to demonstrate, retrieve, or replenish merchandise and cooking equipment
- Use hands to seize, hold, grasp, turn, chop, whisk, slice, stir, juice, and demonstrate techniques; lift or move merchandise up to 50 lbs; ascend and descend ladders for merchandise access
- Operate computer, POS system, keyboards, merchandise scanners, and mouse
- Available 12 to 16 hours per week with flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays (scheduled hours may vary with business needs) along with regular predictable attendance and flexibility to adjust class assignments based on demand
- Work effectively in variable kitchen environments featuring open flames, hot surfaces, temperature variations, and physical or airborne food allergens
