The Educational Alliance Inc. is seeking a dedicated Afterschool Group Leader to join its team in Lower East Side, Manhattan. In this part‑time role, you will guide elementary‑age students through enriching activities that support learning, social growth, and community connection.

About the Role

As an Afterschool Group Leader, you will work closely with a small team of educators and volunteers to create a safe, welcoming environment where children can explore interests, complete homework, and build friendships after the school day ends. The position is based at the organization’s Lower East Side center and reports directly to the Afterschool Program Coordinator.

What You'll Do

  • Plan and lead daily activities that combine academic support, arts, recreation, and life‑skills workshops.
  • Supervise groups of 10‑15 children, ensuring their safety and well‑being at all times.
  • Assist students with homework assignments and provide tutoring in core subjects as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers about each child’s progress and any behavioral concerns.
  • Maintain attendance records, incident reports, and program supplies in accordance with agency policies.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and professional development sessions to improve program quality.
  • Help organize special events, field trips, and family engagement nights that strengthen community ties.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children in an afterschool, camp, or classroom setting, preferably with ages 5‑12.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse families and staff.
  • Basic knowledge of child development principles and behavior‑management strategies.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to creating an inclusive environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education, social work, or a related field is a plus.
  • Clearance to pass a background check as required by New York State child‑care regulations.
