Academic Advisor

St. Mary's University seeks an experienced Academic Advisor to join our campus in Balcones Heights, Bexar County, supporting undergraduate students in their academic planning and success. This is a full-time position focused on proactive guidance, enrollment support, and student retention through strategic advising initiatives.

About the Role

As an Academic Advisor at St. Mary's University, you will be central to student success, providing comprehensive academic advising, early intervention, and programming aligned with our institutional Academic Advising Plan. You will work primarily with freshman and sophomore-level students, helping them navigate their college journey with clarity and confidence. Additionally, you will facilitate enrollment processes for new students, including transfer students, ensuring smooth degree planning and course registration from enrollment through graduation.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Deliver proactive academic advising to assigned student populations, with emphasis on first- and second-year undergraduates
• Conduct transfer articulation reviews and advising to ensure proper credit evaluation and degree progress
• Develop individualized degree plans aligned with student goals and institutional requirements
• Facilitate registration processes and coordinate enrollment logistics for new and continuing students
• Implement early-alert systems and academic interventions for at-risk students
• Contribute to advising-related programming and initiatives supporting student retention and engagement
• Maintain accurate student records and advising documentation within institutional systems

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
• Experience in academic advising, student services, or higher education support roles
• Knowledge of degree requirements, academic policies, and institutional practices
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build rapport with diverse student populations
• Organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple student caseloads
• Proficiency with student information systems and Microsoft Office applications
• Commitment to student-centered service and continuous professional development
