Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Review, prepare, and process import shipping documents such as bills of lading, arrival notices, and commercial invoices to ensure all required details are complete and accurate.
• Coordinate closely with ocean carriers, trucking partners, and customs brokers to schedule arrivals, container pickups, and delivery appointments.
• Monitor vessel schedules, track cargo status, and proactively update stakeholders on any delays or changes affecting ocean import shipments.
• Handle customs-related filings and clearances by assembling supporting paperwork and following applicable U.S. import regulations.
• Resolve operational issues such as holds, discrepancies, or documentation errors through clear communication and prompt corrective action.
• Maintain organized electronic and paper records of transactions, communications, and key milestones for each ocean import file.
• Support continuous process improvements by flagging inefficiencies and sharing practical suggestions with the team.

Who We're Looking For

• Prior hands-on experience in ocean import operations, freight forwarding, or related logistics coordination is preferred.
• Solid working knowledge of ocean freight documentation, vessel tracking, and basic U.S. customs procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple active files under time-sensitive conditions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with carriers, clients, and colleagues.
• Proficiency with standard office software and comfort learning internal shipping or tracking systems.
• Problem-solving mindset and a collaborative approach suited to a fast-paced import environment in Charleston.
