Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Carry out assigned portions of treatment programs designed by occupational therapists, focusing on mobility, strength, and fine-motor recovery.
• Lead patients through functional activities such as self-care tasks, reaching drills, and adaptive equipment practice to rebuild daily living skills.
• Record accurate notes on client responses, tolerance levels, and functional gains after each session so the broader team can adjust plans promptly.
• Set up treatment spaces, sanitize equipment, and ensure all tools remain secure and ready for subsequent appointments.
• Demonstrate home programs to patients and family members, reinforcing correct techniques so gains continue outside the clinic.
• Share real-time observations with therapists, physical therapists, and nursing staff during brief case discussions.
• Monitor vital signs and safety precautions during activity to maintain a risk-free therapy environment.

Requirements

• Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Active Maryland licensure or clear pathway to license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
• National COTA certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
• Working knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and common adult rehabilitation diagnoses.
• Ability to follow established treatment plans while modifying activities based on real-time patient feedback.
• Comfortable communicating clearly with patients of varied ages and backgrounds as well as with interdisciplinary colleagues.
• Current CPR credential and capacity to assist with safe transfers and positioning.
