The Patient Care Technician, Surgical Step Down, 36 Hours (Nights) at BMC in Boston, Massachusetts, Massachusetts delivers direct bedside assistance to patients recovering after surgery under the guidance of registered nurses. Across 36 hours of night-shift work each week, you help maintain stability, comfort, and continuity of care for individuals who require close observation as they progress beyond intensive treatment. Key Responsibilities
- Obtain and document vital signs, intake-output totals, and other routine measurements for surgical step-down patients
- Assist patients with mobility, positioning, personal hygiene, and activities of daily living while promoting safety and dignity
- Support specimen collection, equipment setup, and basic unit readiness under nursing direction
- Observe and promptly report changes in patient condition to the clinical team
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and orderly care area throughout the night shift
- Respond to call lights and provide timely comfort measures for individuals on the surgical step-down pathway
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent and the ability to perform essential patient-care tasks
- Current BLS certification and competence with standard vital-sign and monitoring equipment
- Prior exposure to acute-care, medical-surgical, or step-down environments preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and readiness to work consistent night hours totaling 36 per week
