Local Contract PACU Registered Nurse

Role Overview

This contract PACU nursing role connects qualified registered nurses with a hospital-based surgical recovery team in the New Orleans area. You'll work 12-hour night shifts across a 36-hour weekly schedule, supporting patients as they emerge from anesthesia and progress toward discharge. The 13-week assignment appeals to nurses seeking flexible temporary placement with an established healthcare staffing partner.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor patients in immediate post-anesthesia recovery, assessing airway, breathing, and hemodynamic stability
• Record and report vital signs, oxygen saturation levels, and clinical changes requiring intervention
• Administer pain management and anti-nausea protocols according to physician orders
• Maintain IV lines, urinary catheters, and other post-operative medical equipment
• Document comprehensive patient assessments and nursing interventions in the electronic health record
• Communicate with surgical, anesthesia, and medical staff to coordinate safe patient transitions
• Provide discharge education to patients and families regarding post-operative expectations
• Maintain PACU readiness by preparing the environment and equipment for incoming patients

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Current BLS/CPR certification
• Prior PACU or acute care nursing experience preferred
• Solid understanding of post-operative nursing protocols and anesthesia recovery principles
• Strong clinical assessment and interpersonal communication abilities
• Capability to function independently in high-acuity, fast-paced settings
• Availability to work scheduled night shifts
