Residential Mentor – Behavioral Health Network

Join Catholic Charities Maine as a Full-Time Residential Mentor at Freedom House in Portland, Cumberland County, and provide direct, compassionate support to women navigating recovery and housing stability.

Role Overview

Freedom House is a 24/7 residential program located in Portland that creates a safe, supportive community for women rebuilding their lives. As a Residential Mentor, you'll be at the heart of this mission, working directly with residents who have experienced homelessness, substance use recovery, domestic violence, or involvement in the justice system. This role combines active mentoring, daily living support, and relationship-building to help women achieve stability and independence. You'll work full-time in a dynamic team environment within Catholic Charities Maine's Behavioral Health Network.

Your Responsibilities

• Provide daily mentoring, coaching, and emotional support to residents in a residential setting
• Model healthy coping strategies and life skills through consistent, supportive presence
• Support residents' progress toward personal goals, recovery milestones, and housing stability
• Assist with daily living activities, meal preparation, household management, and community participation
• Monitor resident safety and well-being; respond to crises with professionalism and empathy
• Communicate effectively with clinical staff, case managers, and other team members
• Document resident interactions and progress according to program standards
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or relevant certification preferred
• Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with empathy and patience
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building trusting relationships
• Experience or familiarity with homelessness, addiction recovery, or trauma-informed care a plus
• Flexibility to work full-time schedules, including some evenings and weekends
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
