Lead Software Engineer

DealerBuilt is hiring a full-time Lead Software Engineer for our Sherwood Forest, Houston office. Join our team and help drive innovation in automotive retail technology.

What This Role Involves

As a Lead Software Engineer at DealerBuilt, you'll architect and deliver solutions for our automotive dealership software portfolio. We're looking for someone who can lead engineering efforts across our suite of retail cloud platforms—including our DMS, document management, CRM, desking, and analytics tools—and mentor developers while shipping reliable, scalable code.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of features and systems for DealerBuilt's automotive software platforms
• Architect solutions that power dealership workflows—from service lane management to F&I tools and fraud protection
• Mentor and support engineering team members, review code, and promote best practices across the organization
• Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to translate business needs into technical roadmaps
• Troubleshoot complex issues, optimize performance, and ensure reliability across production systems
• Contribute to strategic technical decisions that shape the future of our platform

What You Bring

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 2+ years in a technical leadership or mentoring role
• Strong expertise in full-stack development or a core technical domain (backend systems, cloud infrastructure, frontend architecture)
• Demonstrated ability to design scalable systems and architect solutions for complex problems
• Experience leading or contributing to high-impact projects in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
