Assistant Coach – Boys Basketball (Mitchell HS)

About the Role

As Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball at Mitchell High School, you'll work alongside the head coach to deliver quality athletic instruction and develop our student-athletes both on and off the court. Reporting to the Athletic Director, you'll contribute to a program dedicated to athletic excellence, teamwork, and personal growth. The schedule varies based on team needs, including practices, games, and related coaching commitments throughout the competitive season.

What You'll Do

• Lead or assist with practice planning and skill development for basketball players
• Help prepare athletes for games through conditioning, strategy review, and technique coaching
• Provide instruction and feedback during practices and competitions
• Collaborate with the head coach on team strategy, player evaluation, and game management
• Support player development in areas including ball handling, shooting, defensive fundamentals, and basketball IQ
• Maintain equipment and manage team resources as needed
• Help foster a positive team culture centered on sportsmanship and school pride
• Communicate with athletes, families, and school leadership about program progress

What We're Looking For

• Coaching experience or a demonstrated passion for developing young basketball players
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, and game strategy
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor high school student-athletes
• Physical capability to actively participate in practices and demonstrations
• Commitment to student safety, player welfare, and youth development
• Legal authorization to work in the United States
• Willingness to undergo a background check as required by Colorado Springs School District 11
