Join Merck as a Regional Medical Scientific Director focused on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) immunology, supporting healthcare providers across the Southern-Midwest region from our Baton Rouge office. This is a full-time leadership position where you'll combine deep clinical expertise with scientific communication to advance patient care in gastroenterology.
About the Role
As a Regional Medical Scientific Director, you'll serve as a trusted scientific resource in your territory, building meaningful relationships with gastroenterologists, hepatologists, primary care physicians, and other healthcare professionals who treat IBD patients. You'll leverage your medical or pharmaceutical science credentials to provide evidence-based information about our immunology portfolio and support clinical decision-making across the region.
What You'll Do
- Establish and maintain scientific relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare providers in gastroenterology throughout the Southern-Midwest territory
- Deliver evidence-based educational presentations on IBD immunology mechanisms, clinical trial data, and therapeutic outcomes to medical professionals
- Respond to clinical questions and provide accurate, science-backed answers about our products and disease pathology
- Conduct peer-to-peer case discussions and clinical reviews to support optimal patient treatment
- Gather insights on medical needs, competitive landscape, and clinical evidence preferences within your region
- Collaborate with medical affairs, sales, and clinical teams to align on regional scientific initiatives
- Monitor scientific literature and stay current on IBD immunology advances to maintain credibility with healthcare providers
- Support regional clinical events, advisory panels, and continuing education activities as needed
What We're Looking For
- Advanced professional credentials required: PhD, PharmD, DNP, or MD
- Proven experience in medical affairs, clinical pharmacy, or similar scientific communication roles
- Strong knowledge of immunology, gastroenterology, or IBD therapeutic areas
- Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills with ability to simplify complex clinical concepts
- Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships and credibility with healthcare providers
- Self-directed professional with ability to manage a geographic territory independently
- Strong organizational skills, attention to regulatory compliance, and ethical communication standards
- Willingness to travel regularly within the Southern-Midwest region
