Northrop Grumman is hiring a Sr. Principal Electro-Optical/Infrared Systems Engineer in Melbourne, Brevard County, to lead the architecture and development of advanced EO/IR systems serving national defense and security missions.
About the Role
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Melbourne, Brevard County. You will drive the technical strategy, design, and integration of cutting-edge EO/IR sensor and imaging systems. A Secret-level security clearance is required to begin. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates. This role involves travel of up to 10% annually.
What You'll Do
- Lead end-to-end systems engineering for electro-optical and infrared sensor architectures, from concept through production deployment
- Define technical requirements, performance specifications, and integration standards for EO/IR systems and subsystems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, software developers, and program management to deliver on schedule and specification
- Conduct trade studies, modeling, and simulation to optimize system performance, power consumption, and manufacturability
- Mentor engineering teams and establish best practices for systems integration, testing, and quality assurance
- Interface with government customers, military operators, and stakeholders to understand mission needs and translate them into technical solutions
- Drive technology insertion initiatives to incorporate the latest advances in imaging, processing, and sensor fusion
What We're Looking For
- 15+ years of systems engineering experience in electro-optical, infrared, or advanced imaging systems
- Demonstrated expertise in sensor design, optical systems, signal processing, or systems integration
- Deep understanding of imaging performance metrics, radiometry, and optical engineering principles
- Proven experience leading technical teams and mentoring junior engineers
- Strong background in defense, aerospace, or space systems programs
- Experience with MBSE, modeling tools, and systems engineering standards
- Ability to obtain or maintain a Secret-level security clearance
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred
