About the Role
As a Robotics Engineer in Mobile Manipulation at the National Robotics Engineering Center, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians to develop, implement, and field-deploy advanced robotic platforms. You'll participate in collaborative teams that span mechanical engineering, software development, systems integration, and real-world validation—contributing your expertise at every stage from concept through implementation.
What You'll Do
- Develop and prototype mobile manipulation systems, including robotic arms, grippers, and autonomous locomotion platforms
- Contribute to mechanical design, control algorithms, and integration of hardware and software components
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to architect and solve complex engineering challenges
- Participate in testing, validation, and field deployment of robotic systems
- Maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and engineering records
- Engage with evolving innovations and best practices in robotics and automation
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Foundational knowledge of mobile manipulation principles, kinematics, and control systems
- Experience with CAD software, design tools, and robotics simulation environments
- Programming experience in robotics-focused languages such as C++, Python, or ROS
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with keen attention to engineering detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary team settings
- Clear technical communication skills and ability to document work thoroughly
