Join The Wild Animal Sanctuary as an Animal Care Associate at our Springfield refuge location in Baca County, Colorado. This is a full-time, entry-level opportunity to contribute directly to the care and wellbeing of animals while working in rural Colorado.
About the Role
The Animal Care Associate position supports the core operations of our refuge in Springfield, Colorado. You'll work as part of our animal care team under the guidance of our Executive Director, performing essential daily tasks that keep our sanctuary running smoothly. This role is based in Springfield, CO 81073, and requires residency in the surrounding area.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct daily care for animals across the sanctuary, including feeding and health observations
- Perform ranch and grounds maintenance tasks to support sanctuary operations
- Operate vehicles safely to transport feed, supplies, and equipment as needed
- Maintain sanctuary facilities and work areas to ensure animal safety and welfare
- Assist with general laborer duties across the refuge grounds
- Contribute to the day-to-day operational needs of the animal care program
What We're Looking For
- Physical capability to perform outdoor labor and animal handling tasks
- Willingness to work in a ranch environment with varying weather conditions
- Reliable, dedicated approach to animal care responsibilities
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record
- Entry-level experience or demonstrated passion for animal welfare (training provided)
- Residency requirement: must live in the Lamar, La Junta, Springfield, or Pritchett, Colorado area
