About the Role

As a Medical Lab Scientist in our microbiology lab, you'll be essential to Mayo Clinic's mission of providing world-class diagnostic services. Your work—analyzing blood samples, tissue specimens, and bodily fluids—helps physicians diagnose infections, guide treatment decisions, and improve patient outcomes. You'll combine hands-on laboratory technique with analytical problem-solving, ensuring accuracy and quality in every test.

What You'll Do

• Perform advanced microbiological testing and analysis on patient specimens using laboratory instrumentation and established protocols
• Prepare, stain, and examine slides and cultures for identification of pathogens and organisms
• Conduct culture techniques, sensitivity testing, and identification procedures to support clinical diagnosis
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of test results and laboratory findings
• Follow rigorous quality assurance standards and safety protocols in all laboratory procedures
• Collaborate with clinical teams to provide timely and reliable diagnostic information
• Troubleshoot equipment and procedures to maintain optimal laboratory performance

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or related field
• Current ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification or eligibility
• Strong foundation in microbiology, bacteriology, mycology, and parasitology
• Demonstrated precision, attention to detail, and analytical thinking skills
• Proficiency with laboratory instruments and information systems
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities in a fast-paced clinical setting
