Director of Human Resources

Join Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Johnson County as our full-time Director of Human Resources. About the Role

As Director of Human Resources at Mid-America Nazarene University, you'll report directly to the Vice President for Finance and serve as the strategic architect of our human resources function. This leadership position is integral to how we attract, develop, retain, and support talent while upholding our institutional mission and values.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement comprehensive human resources strategies aligned with university goals and long-term institutional planning
• Lead faculty and staff recruitment, selection, onboarding, and professional development initiatives
• Manage employee relations, address workplace issues, and foster positive organizational culture
• Administer compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitive, equitable pay practices
• Direct payroll operations and oversee the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
• Ensure all HR policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local employment regulations
• Advise senior leadership on workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, and talent management

What We're Looking For

• Proven HR leadership experience, ideally within higher education or similarly complex organizations
• Strong foundation in strategic human resources planning, employee relations, and legal compliance
• Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms, payroll systems, and compensation administration
• Deep knowledge of employment law and regulatory requirements
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with ability to engage all organizational levels
• Demonstrated capability to develop talent, lead cross-functional initiatives, and drive organizational change
