Independent Living Skills (ILS) Counselor

Join Lifehouse Agency as an Independent Living Skills Counselor in San Rafael, and help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) build the confidence and capabilities to thrive in their communities. This part-time position offers meaningful, direct-support work with people who are building toward greater independence and community engagement.

About the Role

As an Independent Living Skills Counselor, you'll work one-on-one with people in our program to develop practical life competencies and expand their participation in community activities. Your role is to build genuine relationships, provide supportive guidance, and create opportunities for personal growth through everyday experiences.

What You'll Do

• Assist individuals with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, household management, and money handling
• Support skill-building in areas like communication, social interaction, and problem-solving
• Plan and accompany clients to community activities—dining out, joining clubs, recreation, shopping, and social outings
• Help individuals navigate community resources and build social connections
• Document progress, observations, and support provided according to program standards
• Collaborate with the care team to ensure coordinated, person-centered support

What We're Looking For

• Genuine passion for supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently while maintaining team coordination
• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license (required for some activities)
• Willingness to learn and adapt to individual client needs
• Previous experience in direct support or caregiving is helpful but not required for the right candidate
