Sumter School District is seeking a dedicated Career Specialist to join the student support services team at R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy, where you'll guide high school students through career exploration, college planning, and professional development.
About the Role
In this full-time position, you'll serve as a mentor and guide for students preparing for higher education and beyond. You'll combine career counseling expertise with college readiness support to help students build meaningful academic and career pathways. Working closely with faculty, families, and community partners, you'll create a culture of ambition and possibility for our college-bound students.
What You'll Do
- Conduct individual and group career development sessions with students to explore interests, strengths, and potential career trajectories
- Provide personalized college advising, including institutional research, application strategies, and financial aid guidance
- Facilitate resume workshops, interview preparation, and professional communication skill-building
- Help students identify and pursue internship and work-based learning opportunities aligned with their goals
- Maintain current knowledge of college admission requirements, standardized testing, and scholarship opportunities
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to integrate career awareness into the academic program
- Track student progress and outcomes; document career development activities and student achievement
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and college/career planning milestones
What We're Looking For
- Current and valid Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) certification
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as counseling, education, career development, or student services
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
- Knowledge of college admissions, career pathways, and labor market trends
- Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple student needs and timelines
- Commitment to student success and equitable access to educational opportunity
