The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is seeking a full-time Director of Finance to lead financial strategy and operations for our Cleveland, Cuyahoga County headquarters. As chief financial steward, you'll drive the organization's fiscal health and ensure sustainable resources to support our mission of delivering legal services to those who need them most.
About the Role
This executive-level position shapes the financial future of a mission-driven organization. You'll own comprehensive financial leadership—from strategic planning and budget management to financial reporting and risk oversight. Your decisions will ensure financial sustainability while supporting the expansion and quality of legal services across our communities.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement multi-year financial strategy aligned with organizational priorities
- Create annual budgets and financial forecasts to guide resource allocation and planning
- Oversee all financial reporting, audit processes, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Manage cash flow, investments, and financial reserves to strengthen organizational stability
- Lead and mentor finance staff; oversee accounting systems, controls, and internal procedures
- Manage grant funding, restricted funds, and donor stewardship
- Collaborate with executive leadership and board leadership on financial planning and policy
- Monitor operational efficiency and identify opportunities to maximize programmatic impact
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field
- Proven leadership experience as a finance director or equivalent executive role
- Deep expertise in nonprofit accounting, grant management, and compliance frameworks
- Strong ability to build and manage complex budgets and financial models
- Excellent leadership and team-building skills
- Polished communication abilities and comfort presenting to boards and stakeholders
