First American is hiring a full-time Commercial Underwriting Counsel (In Office) to join its National Commercial Services group in Tampa, Florida, supporting complex commercial real estate transactions for a company that has championed its people since 1889.

About the Role

As Commercial Underwriting Counsel based on-site in Tampa, you will provide legal guidance and underwriting expertise across commercial real estate deals that range from straightforward single-property closings to intricate multi-property, multi-state transactions. This is an in-office position embedded within First American's National Commercial Services division, where you will collaborate closely with underwriters, escrow teams, and clients to keep transactions moving smoothly and securely.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and resolve title and underwriting matters on commercial real estate transactions of varying size and complexity.
• Deliver clear legal counsel on risk, coverage, and underwriting decisions for single-point national commercial deals.
• Examine title evidence, surveys, and supporting documentation to determine insurability.
• Partner with escrow, sales, and operations colleagues to structure solutions for multi-property and multi-state closings.
• Help safeguard the company and its clients by applying sound judgment and underwriting guidelines consistently.

Qualifications

• Active law license and the legal background required to serve as underwriting counsel.
• Experience with commercial real estate, title insurance, or related underwriting work is highly valued.
• Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills, with attention to detail under deadline pressure.
• Willingness and ability to work full-time, on-site in the Tampa office.
