The City of Newcastle invites applications for a dedicated WHS Injury Management Officer to join our team in Newcastle, Amajuba on a full-time, fixed-term contract basis until 30 April 2027. In this pivotal role, you'll champion the recovery and return-to-work journeys of our workforce, directly shaping outcomes that transform lives and strengthen our organisation.
What This Role Involves
As our WHS Injury Management Officer, you'll be the cornerstone of our commitment to employee wellbeing and safe return to work. You'll coordinate comprehensive injury management programmes, working across teams to ensure injured employees receive the support, guidance, and resources they need to recover with confidence and resume their duties safely. Your efforts will bridge medical care, workplace accommodation, and employee resilience—turning recovery into an opportunity for growth and positive organisational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and administer injury management plans that prioritise employee recovery and sustainable return-to-work transitions
- Liaise with medical professionals, rehabilitation providers, and other stakeholders to coordinate comprehensive care and workplace adjustments
- Monitor compliance with workers' compensation protocols and workplace health and safety legislative requirements
- Provide individualised support and counsel to injured employees, rebuilding confidence and addressing concerns throughout recovery
- Document, track, and report on injury cases, recovery milestones, and return-to-work outcomes
- Contribute to injury prevention initiatives and identify systemic workplace health and safety improvements
What You Bring
- Demonstrated experience in injury management, return-to-work coordination, or workplace health and safety roles
- Solid understanding of workers' compensation legislation, workplace health and safety regulations, and duty of care principles
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage compassionately with injured employees and diverse stakeholders
- Strong organisational and case management abilities with keen attention to detail and compliance
- Flexibility and resilience to navigate complex, evolving injury scenarios with professionalism and empathy
