The City of Huntsville Water Pollution Control Department is recruiting a full-time Water Pollution Control Utility Worker (Grade 8/Step 6) to join our operations team in Huntsville, Madison County. This is a hands-on position supporting the essential infrastructure that treats and manages our community's wastewater.
About the Role
You'll operate and maintain treatment equipment, monitor process performance, and help ensure regulatory compliance across our water pollution control facilities. This position offers meaningful work in environmental protection with opportunities to develop deeper technical expertise in wastewater treatment operations and become a valued member of our growing operational team.
What You'll Do
- Operate treatment equipment and process systems according to established protocols and safety standards
- Conduct routine inspections, testing, and maintenance on treatment facilities and related equipment
- Monitor water quality parameters and document operational data for compliance reporting
- Perform preventive maintenance and respond to equipment issues in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate records and reports as required by regulatory agencies
- Follow safety procedures and contribute to a compliant, professional work environment
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED
- Prior experience in water/wastewater operations, utility maintenance, or related field work
- Ability to follow technical procedures and prioritize safety protocols
- Mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and dependability
