Transportation Engineer 5-Hydraulics

CDM Smith is seeking a Transportation Engineer 5-Hydraulics to join our team in Rock Hill, York County. In this full-time role, you'll design, analyze, and optimize hydraulic systems for transportation infrastructure projects, leveraging your engineering expertise to deliver solutions that enhance public safety and system performance.

About the Role

As a senior-level transportation engineer specializing in hydraulics, you'll lead technical efforts on complex projects involving hydraulic fluid power systems, bridge and traffic control infrastructure, and transportation facilities. You'll serve as a subject-matter expert, driving innovation in hydraulic design and supporting CDM Smith's commitment to delivering excellence on behalf of our clients and communities.

What You'll Do

• Design and analyze hydraulic systems for transportation applications, including bridge operations, traffic control, and infrastructure facilities
• Conduct hydraulic modeling, simulation, and performance analysis using industry-standard software tools
• Develop technical specifications, design drawings, and construction documentation for hydraulic components and systems
• Troubleshoot hydraulic system issues and recommend corrective actions to ensure reliability and safety
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and project managers throughout the design and implementation phases
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the transportation group
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements in all hydraulic designs

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or related engineering discipline
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one
• 7+ years of professional experience in hydraulic systems design and analysis for transportation or infrastructure projects
• Proficiency with CAD software, hydraulic simulation tools, and Microsoft Office suite
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic principles, fluid power systems, and industry best practices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts
• Demonstrated project leadership and ability to work effectively in team environments
