About the Role

Metropolis transforms everyday transactions through computer vision and AI-driven technology, making parking and mobility experiences seamless and effortless for millions of users. As Staff Software Engineer leading our Customer Experience application development, you'll architect the technical foundations for a platform serving high-volume locations, fleet operations, and aviation use cases. This role combines hands-on engineering expertise with strategic technical leadership, requiring you to chart direction for the organisation's product evolution whilst fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within your engineering teams.

What You'll Do

  • Define and communicate a technical strategy and long-term roadmap that aligns product capabilities with organisational goals across multiple teams
  • Build systems and processes that ensure reliability at scale whilst enabling rapid prototyping and data-driven feature validation
  • Accelerate the engineering team's productivity and quality through thoughtful architecture decisions and technology investments
  • Mentor and recruit exceptional engineers, developing talent whilst strengthening the team's technical depth
  • Foster collaborative spaces where diverse technical and product perspectives combine to drive the strongest solutions forward
  • Deliver platform capabilities that differentiate Metropolis in the marketplace and unlock value for users globally

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 10 years designing, building, and shipping customer-focused applications and digital products
  • Proven track record of setting technical direction and winning buy-in across engineering organisations
  • Expertise designing and operating large-scale distributed systems handling high-volume consumer transactions
  • Mastery of core computer science principles and expert-level proficiency in Scala, Java, or similar production languages
  • Substantial experience architecting data-intensive platforms and analytics infrastructure
  • Nuanced understanding of release engineering practices, operational trade-offs, and system lifecycle considerations
  • Ability to articulate complex architectural and technical concepts to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience collaborating across product, design, and business teams to deliver solutions for consumer and enterprise customers
  • Working knowledge of our technology environment: TypeScript, React, Scala, Java, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, AWS, Git, GitHub, Copilot, Claude Code, and Datadog
