Nexus Family Healing is seeking a dedicated Substitute Teacher for Grand Prairie School in Onarga, Iroquois County, Illinois. This is a full-time position serving a unique residential community dedicated to supporting young boys ages 10 to 20 in a structured, therapeutic learning environment.

About the Role

As a Substitute Teacher at Nexus Family Healing, you will provide educational instruction and classroom management to students within our residential treatment program. This full-time position plays a vital role in our mission to create a stable, nurturing academic setting that complements the therapeutic services our students receive. Located in Onarga, just off I-57 and approximately 30 miles south of Kankakee and 45 miles north of Champaign-Urbana, our facility operates on a historic site designed to support student growth and development.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned classroom instruction to students ages 10–20
  • Maintain positive classroom management and create a supportive learning environment
  • Collaborate with residential and clinical staff to understand student needs and progress
  • Document student learning and communicate regularly with the educational team
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student learning styles and abilities
  • Contribute to the homelike, structured community environment at our Onarga campus

What We're Looking For

  • Valid Illinois teaching license or substitute teaching certification
  • Experience working with school-age students, ideally in alternative or therapeutic settings
  • Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to supporting young people in a residential treatment environment
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational setting
