Special Investigator

The Government of the Virgin Islands is hiring a Special Investigator to work in Charlotte Amalie, Saint Thomas. In this full-time position, you'll investigate consumer complaints, conduct regulatory audits, and inspect professional practices to protect the public across the territory.

About the Role

Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner or their designee, you'll lead investigations into allegations of unlawful or improper conduct by licensed professionals and regulated businesses. Your work combines evidence gathering, systematic inquiry, and compliance monitoring to safeguard consumers from harmful practices.

What You'll Do

• Investigate consumer complaints alleging misconduct, fraud, or violations by regulated professionals and businesses
• Conduct inspections and audits to verify compliance with territorial laws and regulations
• Interview complainants, witnesses, and subjects of investigation to gather facts and evidence
• Collect and review documents, records, and materials relevant to each case
• Analyze findings and prepare detailed investigation reports with conclusions and recommendations
• Coordinate with the Assistant Commissioner, legal counsel, and enforcement officials on case outcomes
• Maintain organized case files, documentation, and records in compliance with agency standards
• Communicate investigation results clearly to supervisors, complainants, and decision-makers

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; college coursework or degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field preferred
• Strong investigative and analytical capabilities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to conduct professional interviews and gather evidence methodically
• Competence with standard computer applications and office software
• Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to fair, impartial investigation
• Capability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously and meet deadlines independently
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
