About the Role

As a Special Education Bus Aide-Substitute in our Transportation department, you'll play a vital role in ensuring safe, supportive school bus experiences for students with special needs. This full-time substitute position serves North Wasco County School District 21's commitment to individualized student care during transit, filling transportation staffing needs across our route system.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Monitor and assist students with special needs during boarding, transit, and exiting the bus
• Support students with physical mobility, communication, and behavioral needs as trained
• Maintain a safe, supportive environment on the bus and enforce transportation safety protocols
• Communicate with bus drivers, special education staff, and families about student progress and safety concerns
• Document student behavior or incidents and report to the special education team
• Follow all emergency procedures and safety requirements for student transportation

Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to pass a complete background check through the Oregon Department of Education, including fingerprinting
• Physical capability to assist and support students as needed
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, compassion, and genuine commitment to student safety and welfare
• Flexibility to work across multiple routes and substitute schedules
