Senior Public Engagement Specialist

HNTB is hiring a Senior Public Engagement Specialist in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. This full-time position offers the opportunity to lead strategic communications and public engagement initiatives for a transformational transportation program serving the Nashville region.

About the Role

As Senior Public Engagement Specialist, you'll develop and execute comprehensive engagement and communications strategies that build public understanding and support for complex transportation initiatives. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on communication delivery, positioning you to shape how the Nashville community learns about and participates in major infrastructure and mobility programs.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement strategic public engagement plans for high-profile transportation projects
• Create communications materials and messaging that resonate with diverse Nashville stakeholder groups
• Lead outreach efforts through community meetings, stakeholder interviews, and public forums
• Develop multimedia content including fact sheets, web copy, presentations, and social media
• Monitor and report on engagement metrics and communications effectiveness
• Coordinate with project teams, elected officials, and community organizations
• Build relationships with local media, neighborhood leaders, and advocacy groups
• Guide junior communications staff and oversee engagement project execution

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of public engagement, government communications, or nonprofit communications experience
• Proven track record leading strategic communications campaigns on complex or controversial topics
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to translate technical information for general audiences
• Experience with community engagement planning and facilitating public meetings
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work with diverse audiences
• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, planning, policy, or related field
• Proficiency with communication tools and willingness to learn new platforms
• Understanding of or interest in transportation, infrastructure, or urban development
