Senior Learning Experience Designer

This is a full-time role open to candidates in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

About the Role

As Senior Learning Experience Designer at alx_africa, you will lead a team of Learning Experience Designers while owning the creation of rigorous, high-quality curricula. Acting as both coach and project manager, you will guide the design team, build efficient workflows, safeguard delivery timelines, and uphold quality standards. Partnering with subject matter experts, industry collaborators, and internal stakeholders, you will craft practical, scalable, and impactful programs in fast-moving fields.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the design of new programs so learning experiences stay practical, scalable, and aligned to industry needs.
• Ensure curricula and assessments reflect alx_africa's learning design principles and target the right competencies.
• Co-create cutting-edge content alongside industry experts and partner institutions.
• Lead, coach, and develop designers in instructional design, media integration, and data-informed storytelling.
• Run design sprints, retrospectives, staffing plans, and delivery calendars to keep work on track.
• Establish robust review processes covering content quality, accessibility, and pedagogical rigour.
• Experiment with emerging tools and media formats, including AI, to lift engagement and outcomes.
• Codify frameworks and best practices into reusable playbooks and templates.
• Apply learner performance data, completion metrics, and feedback to refine course design, and build reporting frameworks with the data team to track effectiveness.

Qualifications

• A strong record in instructional design, learning experience design, or curriculum development.
• Experience leading and mentoring teams of designers or educators.
• Demonstrated success managing large-scale program development projects.
• Familiarity with integrating AI-powered learning or assessment tools.
• Expertise in instructional design methods, curriculum frameworks, and learner-centred design.
• Strong systems thinking, project management (sprint planning, retrospectives, pipeline tracking), and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Confident storytelling, writing, and editing, plus familiarity with authoring tools such as H5P and learning management systems.
• Beneficial: exposure to creative industries, digital media, emerging technology, or competency-based education.
• Personal attributes of courage and humility — the willingness to challenge the status quo and a genuine openness to learn.
