Senior SAP ABAP Developer (Open to Remote) (Westminster, MD, US, MD/21157W)

Penguin Random House, part of Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA, is hiring a Senior SAP ABAP Developer to build and sustain the enterprise systems behind the future of reading. This full-time role is based in Westminster, MD and is open to remote candidates across the United States who can work Eastern Time hours.

About the Role

As a Senior SAP ABAP Developer, you will engineer high-quality ABAP solutions spanning both SAP ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA landscapes. This is a hands-on, code-first position for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and partnering with cross-functional teams rather than working in a purely advisory capacity.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust SAP ABAP solutions across ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA environments.
• Translate business requirements from core SAP modules into reliable, well-tested technical implementations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver and support quality technology solutions end to end.
• Apply deep knowledge of AR, AP, SD, FI, and MM processes to inform development decisions.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of recent, relevant, hands-on SAP ABAP development experience.
• Strong command of SAP ECC 6.0, including the AR, AP, SD, FI, and MM modules, with active ECC work within the last 4–5 years.
• Proven experience designing and implementing ABAP solutions in an S/4HANA environment.
• Primarily a software developer focused on coding and technical delivery, not a consultant or analyst seeking an advisory role.
• A collaborative problem-solver who can illustrate understanding of core module business processes through concrete examples.
