Position Summary

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Examine drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and addenda to define complete scopes for heavy civil, DOT, and public works bids
• Complete accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, piping, paving, structures, and related items using proven digital methods
• Solicit, compare, and select competitive material and subcontractor pricing while documenting assumptions and exclusions
• Assemble detailed cost models that include labor, equipment, materials, overhead, and contingency tailored to municipal and state requirements
• Partner with field managers and design teams to validate production rates, sequencing constraints, and site logistics before finalizing numbers
• Compile clear bid forms, proposal narratives, and supporting documentation for timely submission to public owners
• Maintain up-to-date historical cost databases and share lessons learned after bid openings and project award decisions

Qualifications

• Demonstrated progressive estimating experience focused on heavy civil, DOT, or public works construction
• Working knowledge of standard estimating platforms, digital takeoff applications, and Microsoft Office tools
• Familiarity with Minnesota and federal construction specifications, prevailing wage rules, and common public bidding procedures
• Strong mathematical accuracy, organizational discipline, and written communication skills for technical proposals
• Capacity to prioritize multiple concurrent estimates while delivering thorough, error-free work under firm deadlines
• Preferred background that includes formal training in construction management, civil engineering, or an allied discipline
