Senior Applied Scientist, Agentic Automated Reasoning Group

Amazon is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to join our team in King County, International. In this full-time role, you'll develop intelligent systems that integrate machine learning with formal reasoning engines, enabling autonomous agents that can learn, plan, and solve complex problems at scale.

About the Role

You'll be part of a team reimagining how AI systems combine probabilistic learning with symbolic reasoning. This is foundational research and engineering at Amazon's scale—your work will influence how we build software that understands context, makes decisions, and adapts intelligently.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement algorithms for autonomous reasoning systems that integrate neural and symbolic approaches
• Build and evaluate systems that learn from data while maintaining logical consistency and interpretability
• Collaborate with machine learning engineers and researchers to deploy reasoning systems into production AWS services
• Develop novel techniques for agent behavior synthesis, constraint satisfaction, and multi-step planning
• Publish research findings and contribute to the applied AI community
• Mentor junior scientists and engineers on advanced AI and reasoning concepts

What We're Looking For

• PhD or equivalent advanced experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or related fields
• Proven expertise in automated reasoning, logic programming, knowledge representation, or formal methods
• Strong background in algorithmic research and implementation at scale
• Experience building production systems, especially in cloud environments
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in collaborative research teams
• 5+ years of industry or research experience in AI or applied mathematics
