The role of a Safe Stays and Living Proud Project Officer involves supporting Aboriginal community members experiencing or at risk of homelessness to find safe accommodation, return home, and maintain a healthy, secure tenancy. The position offers structured onboarding, on-the-ground mentoring, and travel alongside experienced team members.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting individuals in finding suitable accommodation options that meet their needs
  • Assisting with the process of returning home or to a safe living environment for those who are displaced
  • Maintaining secure and healthy tenancies through ongoing support and guidance
  • Collaborating closely with community members, local services, and stakeholders to address housing issues effectively

Skills & Qualifications

  • A proven track record in community support or related field with a focus on homelessness and housing issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse individuals
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supporting individuals from Aboriginal communities
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience is preferred but not mandatory
