What This Role Involves
The role of a Safe Stays and Living Proud Project Officer involves supporting Aboriginal community members experiencing or at risk of homelessness to find safe accommodation, return home, and maintain a healthy, secure tenancy. The position offers structured onboarding, on-the-ground mentoring, and travel alongside experienced team members.
Responsibilities
- Supporting individuals in finding suitable accommodation options that meet their needs
- Assisting with the process of returning home or to a safe living environment for those who are displaced
- Maintaining secure and healthy tenancies through ongoing support and guidance
- Collaborating closely with community members, local services, and stakeholders to address housing issues effectively
- Providing mentorship and guidance to team members as part of structured onboarding and training programs
Skills & Qualifications
- A proven track record in community support or related field with a focus on homelessness and housing issues
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse individuals
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supporting individuals from Aboriginal communities
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Familiarity with local community resources and services related to housing and homelessness
