About the Role
This hands-on position centers on architecting autonomy stacks that embed real intelligence into unmanned systems. You'll drive the complete systems integration journey—from algorithm implementation through live flight validation. Your responsibilities span embedded platform configuration, sensor interface development, control system integration, and customer demonstrations. You'll work alongside cross-functional engineering teams and external hardware partners to deliver reliable, production-ready autonomous solutions.
Responsibilities

- Connect autonomy stacks with autopilot systems (ArduPilot, PX4), datalinks, positioning modules, and ground control stations
- Execute software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop validation; perform system troubleshooting across development and field test environments
- Conduct live flight testing on Group 1–5 unmanned aerial vehicles to validate autonomy performance in realistic conditions
- Partner with third-party UAS manufacturers to integrate Applied autonomy software into their hardware platforms
- Design and implement inter-process communication frameworks and service-oriented architecture for autonomous systems
- Resolve complex integration failures, performance issues, and reliability challenges during development and deployment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or related engineering field
- 3+ years hands-on experience with robotic systems, including hardware, software, and integration work
- Strong C++ programming; modern standards (C++11/17/20), Bash, and CMake experience preferred
- Practical expertise integrating Pixhawk autopilot systems (ArduPilot and/or PX4)
- Competence with communication protocols: UART, RS-232/422/485, SPI, QSPI, I2C, Ethernet
- Linux proficiency (Ubuntu, RHEL) and Docker containerized deployment experience
- Hands-on experience with Git, GitLab, and Visual Studio Code
- Understanding of real-time systems and safety-critical software patterns
- Strong communication skills and customer-facing project mindset
- Willingness to travel 10–20% for on-site integration and demonstrations
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain Secret-level security clearance
